September 3 Meeting Announcement
MetaCreations and JASC

We will have the opportunity to see lots of graphics products when MetaCreations and JASC come to DVPC in September. MetaCreations is the publisher of 19 graphics programs, including Painter 5, Kai's SuperGOO, Art Dabbler, Ray Dream Studio, Bryce 3D, and many more. JASC is best known as the publisher of PaintShop Pro, but they have 9 additional graphics packages. So, if you're interested in leading-edge graphics software, be sure to be at the DVPC meeting in September!

So, what happened to Cybermedia – originally scheduled for the September meeting? Well, they are in the process of being acquired by Network Associates (formerly McAfee), and until the acquisition is completed they aren't available for user group presentations.

DVPC meetings are held in the lobby conference room in Building B at the Bank of America Technology Center office complex in Concord, located near the northeast corner of Clayton Road at Galindo (see the Map to Monthly Meetings). Please use the main entrance of the building, which is in the center of the front of the building that faces Clayton road.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. The New User's SIG has their meeting from 6:30 to 7:00. We'll also have the Networking Table from 6:30 to 7:00; if you have something to sell or trade, need technical help, or just want to exchange views, visit the Networking Table. We'll probably have one of our ever-popular mini-auctions with great products, so bring your checkbooks and cash! Also, as usual, we'll have library disks and those great DVPC mugs (version 2) for sale, SIG news, random access, and some of our usual great door prizes. See you at the meeting!

Microsoft Publisher 98 Bug

If you use Microsoft Publisher 98, there's a nasty bug that may lead you to believe your file is corrupt and cannot be used. Here's what can cause this problem: you have a text frame linked to another text frame on another page, with text flowing from the first frame into the second; you delete part but not all of the text, so now there's no text flowing from the first frame into the second; you move to the page where the second frame is located; you move your mouse pointer anywhere over the second frame; the program terminates with an application error.

President's Corner

There's no President's Corner column this month. Look for it's return in the usual place at the lower right corner of this page in the October issue of Diablo Blue.

You Asked for It!

We've been asked to make Diablo Blue available in Adobe Acrobat format,
so it can be read as a unit. Well, here it is folks! It's a huge file to download
(as PDF files often are), 615,532 bytes, but if you have the bandwidth, or
the time, go for it! You'll need Adobe Acrobat, and/or the Acrobat plug-in
for your browser, to be able to read this PDF document file. Ready?
