June 3, 1999 Meeting Announcement
APC
and Trend Micro

The June, 1999 DVPC meeting will feature APC (American Power Conversion). We'll learn about uninterruptible power supplies and surge suppressors, including the Back-UPS Pro 350 and 500, the first UPS line with a USB port to interface to Windows 98 PCs. Power surges, brownouts, and blackouts can cause loss of data and corrupted files on unprotected PCs. Find out how you can protect your system from power problems at the June meeting. We'll also feature Trend Micro and see a demonstration of PC-cillin 6, the latest version of their desktop PC virus detection and eradication program. PC-cillin 6 costs only $29.95 when downloaded from the Trend Micro web site. One of the most unique features that Trend Micro offers is their On-line Virus Doctors for help with your virus problems. You can chat on-line with Trend Micro's Virus Doctors who can give you expert advice and support, free.
DVPC meetings are held in the lobby conference room in Building B at the Bank of America Technology Center office complex in Concord, located near the northeast corner of Clayton Road at Galindo (see the Map to Monthly Meetings on page 15). Please use the main entrance of the building, which is in the center of the front of the building that faces Clayton road.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the main meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. From 6:30 to 7:00 we'll have the New User's SIG meeting; you can visit the Networking Table if you have something to sell or trade, need technical help, or just want to exchange views; and, as usual, we'll have library disks and those great DVPC mugs (version 2) for sale. The main meeting will include SIG news, random access, our presenters, and some of our usual great door prizes. See you at this month's meeting!

Could it be that spring has finally arrived? The weather is beautiful and hopefully it will remain so - at least through July so Corel doesn't get stuck in a snowstorm. Hopefully they are not coming to us via the polar route!
I have a number of interesting presentations lined up. We haven't necessarily pinned down all the dates yet but the various speakers have committed. Of course in June we have American Power Conversions and Trend Micro. APC makes uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and related products. Trend publishes an anti-virus product. (With the Melissa and Papa viruses (virusi?), all the major anti-virus companies are rushing out upgrades and new products. In July (weather permitting), Corel will join us. I think it is amusing that when they originally agreed to present to us they were shipping version 8 of Word Perfect. They sent us a copy for our raffle that I have kept in my garage for their presentation. When they finally get here, they will be showing version 9! Oh well!

You Asked for It!

We've been asked to make Diablo Blue available in Adobe Acrobat format, so it can be read as a unit. Well, here it is folks! It's a huge file to download (as PDF files often are), about 326KB this month, but if you have the bandwidth, or the time, go for it! You'll need Adobe Acrobat, and/or the Acrobat plug-in for your browser, to be able to read this PDF document file.
