June 4 Meeting Announcement - CyberMedia and PowerQuest

It's June, and in keeping with Baseball season we have a double header! CyberMedia will show us GuardDog and their newest version of UnInstaller. GuardDog protects your Internet privacy and security -- automatically. Guard Dog builds a "firewall" around your PC, protecting it from Internet intruders that can damage your hard drive or steal private files. UnInstaller removes old programs - even those installed prior to UnInstaller, removes Internet cache files and obsolete registry settings, and one-click QuickClean does it all in just seconds. Then we'll see PowerQuest and two new products: DriveImage 2 and Guardian Angel. With DriveImage 2 you can make a complete backup of your hard drive on a Zip, JAZ, or almost any other removable media; then, when disaster strikes, you can simply reload the copy of your hard drive and you'll be back in business. Guardian Angel is a brand new product, and you'll be one of the first to see it in action. What does it do? You're going to have to come to the June DVPC meeting to find out!
DVPC meetings are held in the lobby conference room in Building B at the Bank of America Technology Center office complex in Concord, located near the northeast corner of Clayton Road at Galindo (see the Map to Monthly Meetings on page 15). Please use the main entrance of the building, which is in the center of the front of the building that faces Clayton road.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. The New User's SIG has their meeting from 6:30 to 7:00. We'll also have the Networking Table from 6:30 to 7:00; if you have something to sell or trade, need technical help, or just want to exchange views, visit the Networking Table. We'll probably have one of our ever-popular mini-auctions with great products, so bring your checkbooks and cash! Also, as usual, we'll have library disks and those great DVPC mugs (version 2) for sale, SIG news, random access, and some of our usual great door prizes. See you at the meeting!

The Windows 98 Sneak Preview at Cal High in San Ramon was a lot of fun. Thanks to Microsoft, Intel, Compaq and CompUSA for their participation. Thanks also to Cal High for use of their Commons, Rob Schmidt and his students for setup, directing visitors, and manning the doors, and PC Clubhouse for their efforts. We estimate that over 400 people were in attendance. It was a very informative and enjoyable evening. Microsoft did a terrific job of transforming the Commons that evening. Interestingly, when we met there in April to plan the event, we were worried about the late afternoon sun streaming through the upper windows and washing out the display screens. Our biggest worry that evening turned out to be whether the high school students directing traffic would get too wet. Go figure!
As I write this, it looks like Windows 98 will ship on June 25 (unless the Department of Justice is able to get an injunction). In any case, our July 2 meeting will focus
