February 5 Meeting Announcement

Corel and ArcSoft and Parroty

This month Corel will demonstrate their latest versions of CorelDraw! and WordPerfect. CorelDraw! 8 is the leading graphics package for PCs. It incorporates a series of related tools, including their highly rated photo editor. And we'll see the latest features of WordPerfect Suite 8, second in sales only to Microsoft Office.
ArcSoft wasn't able to make our January meeting as scheduled, but will definitely be here in February. They will demonstrate ZipShot and PhotoBase, a brand new package not currently available in stores. Check page 16 of this issue of Diablo Blue for advanced information about the special prices ArcSoft is offering on their products -- including one that's not even in the stores yet -- available ONLY at the meeting, so be sure to be there!
Parroty Interactive is the producers of a line of humorous parody software (Parroty, parody -- get it?). Their latest effort is an early peek at what might be our favorite to-be-released "Real Soon Now" operating system, fractured into another parody: "Microshaft Winblows 98". This is one ya gotta see to believe! And you'll see it at our February meeting.
DVPC meetings are held in the lobby conference room in Building B at the Bank of America Technology Center office complex in Concord, located near the northeast corner of Clayton Road at Galindo (see the map, directions, and parking information on page 14). Please use the main entrance of the building, which is in the center of the front of the building that faces Clayton road.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. The New User's SIG has their meeting from 6:30 to 7:00. We'll also have the Networking Table from 6:30 to 7:00; if you have something to sell or trade, need technical help, or just want to exchange views, visit the Networking Table. We'll probably have one of our ever-popular mini-auctions with great products, so bring your checkbooks and cash! Also, as usual, we'll have library disks and those great DVPC mugs (version 2) for sale, SIG news, random access, and some of our usual great door prizes. See you at the meeting!

This month I expect that we will have a very entertaining meeting. We are fortunate to have two speakers: Corel and ArcSoft. Corel will present CorelDraw! 8 and the ever-popular WordPerfect. It's been a while since Corel has been out to the club, and I expect that with their newly invigorated User Group program it should be an excellent presentation. We are also fortunate to present ArcSoft, which is a local company. They will demonstrate both their video capture hardware and some very interesting video editing software. This should be a very full meeting!
On deck for March is WinChip. This new company is looking to unseat the major chip manufacturers with a line of CPU's with incredible performance and complete compatibility with all the latest software and hardware requirements at a fraction of the cost. We will be auctioning and raffling off a number of chips and
