December 4 Meeting Announcement

The Steve and Alan Show

This month we'll have our own Steve Israel and Alan Mildwurm who will present that most overwhelming of computer events, Comdex, right here at the December DVPC meeting. We'll see and hear about the thousands of new computer goodies that Steve and Alan saw in Las Vegas (or Lost Vegas, depending on one's point of view and what's left in their wallet!). And, if that's not enough information to boggle your mind, Alan will also tell us what he learned at the Microsoft Mindshare User Group Conference in Seattle last month (see his President's Corner column and Cool Stuff article for more information.
And we may just have an extra surprise or two for you at the meeting as well!
DVPC meetings are held in the lobby conference room in Building B at the Bank of America Technology Center office complex in Concord, located near the northeast corner of Clayton Road at Galindo (see the map, directions, and parking information on page 15
). Please use the main entrance of the building, which is in the center of the front of the building that faces Clayton road.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. The New User's SIG has their meeting from 6:30 to 7:00. We'll also have the Networking Table from 6:30 to 7:00; if you have something to sell or trade, need technical help, or just want to exchange views, visit the Networking Table. We'll probably have one of our ever-popular mini-auctions with great products, so bring your checkbooks and cash! Also, as usual, we'll have library disks and those great DVPC mugs (version 2) for sale, SIG news, random access, and some of our usual great door prizes. See you at the meeting!

President's Corner
by Alan Mildwurm, DVPC

I am writing this as I get ready for Comdex. I've been in training for weeks - lots of walking, carrying stuff and waiting in lines. Hope my training pays off. My email box is overflowing with lots of invites to see "The Greatest Comdex Product Ever" - I am putting all the party invites into my database on my HP-C. If I play my cards right, I may not have to buy a meal all week!
This month I was also fortunate enough to spend three days in Seattle at the Microsoft Mindshare User Group Conference. This Conference takes place every 18 months or so. We are fortunate to be one of the 50 clubs in the Mindshare Program that participates in this event. Of course, the traditional NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) were everywhere - but there is still lots I can share! (Steve and I will tell you all about Comdex and the Conference at this
