April 2 Meeting Announcement
Syquest, Nick Chase, and Board Election

This month we're going to have an opportunity to see the latest in removable drive technology: The Syquest SparQ 1 GB drive. This product has generated a lot of excitement, not only because of its capacity and performance, but because of the low price for the drive and for the media: $199 for the drive and under $100 for three 1 GB cartridges! See Alan's President's Corner column starting in the lower right corner of this page for a review of the SparQ drive.
Our own Nick Chase, who is a computer music enthusiast, is going to give a presentation on computers and music that will be extremely interesting. He'll describe some of the latest and exciting new music technology.
And, we're going to have our annual election for the DVPC Board of Directors. See the article on page 10 for a list of the candidates. All members should be sure to come to the meeting and vote for their Board.
DVPC meetings are held in the lobby conference room in Building B at the Bank of America Technology Center office complex in Concord, located near the northeast corner of Clayton Road at Galindo (see the map, directions, and parking information on page 14). Please use the main entrance of the building, which is in the center of the front of the building that faces Clayton road.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. The New User's SIG has their meeting from 6:30 to 7:00. We'll also have the Networking Table from 6:30 to 7:00; if you have something to sell or trade, need technical help, or just want to exchange views, visit the Networking Table. We'll probably have one of our ever-popular mini-auctions with great products, so bring your checkbooks and cash! Also, as usual, we'll have library disks and those great DVPC mugs (version 2) for sale, SIG news, random access, and some of our usual great door prizes. See you at the meeting!

I want to take this opportunity to thank all our Board members for all of their efforts this past year. We really accomplished a number of our goals. We managed to incorporate as a non-profit; we purchased our new projector, obtained insurance and gave members the option of getting the newsletter from the web. Along with the expansion of our web site, we also saw the demise of our BBS, a system that served us well for years but joined the venerable 8 track audio tape drive. In addition to all of that, we also managed to consistently have excellent presentations. This year, our goal is to expand the membership and continue inviting speakers on "state of the art" computing. We also hope to involve more of our own members in the operation of the club <hint> and expand our SIGs. We really hope you will get involved. There are plenty of things we'd like to tackle but need your help. (e.g. an auction)
In reviewing the questionnaires we saw that many people
