Computer History Museum Visit on Saturday June 5
Special Issue of Diablo Blue
There will be no regular DVPC meeting in June.
Instead, on Saturday June 5 we will gather at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View at around 12:30 to be on time for the 1:00 demonstration of the Babbage Difference Engine. That will be followed by a private guided tour of the museum for DVPC members at 1:30. At 2:30 there's a PDP-1 demonstration which should be particularly interesting for those who worked with Digital Equipment computers.
The museum opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. so you can wander as long as you like and view the exhibits and demonstrations.
The Computer History Museum has now begun construction on its major, new exhibition: "Revolution: The First 2000 Years of Computing." Every day brings new changes as walls are moving, concrete is pouring, hammers are pounding and exhibits are forming. Revolution's public opening will be in January 2011. Until then, museum is working to minimize disruptions. Our experience at the museum will not be impacted by the construction of this 25,000 square foot multimedia experience that will immerse visitors in the sights, sounds and stories of the computer revolution. When this exhibit opens in January 2011 it will be an excellent reason for us to take another trip to the Computer History Museum.
This month's meeting will be particularly interesting and informative. We'll see you on Saturday June 5 at the Computer History Museum.
