Coming events:  Alan announced PowerQuest will be the presenter at the November meeting, demonstrating their Partition Magic 7.0 which let’s you divide you hard drive into several logical drives, move installed software between drives, and supports Windows XP. December look for Alan’s insider report on ComDex, and in January Microsoft will show us Windows XP.

Bargains:  Easing ourselves into Business Mode, we began the evening with a discussion of the best place to buy computer paraphernalia for the best price. Best Buy was the winner in this category. Ron bought 50 TDK blank CDs there for nothing (after rebates) plus a little sales tax not in the rebate. Alan recounted the recent purchase of a computer for our Treasurer to use in her new digs at UC Davis for under $800. I neglected to capture all the details (DVD, huge hard drive, etc.). Suffice it to say, it made me embarrassed to talk about my screaming Pentium II 266 with 6.5 meg of hard drive (spread over two disks).
