May 3, 2001 Meeting Announcement
DVPC Member Presentations

The May DVPC meeting will consist of a several presentations by DVPC members. Craig Peterson will have his Beginner's SIG PC 101 table as an expansion of his popular pre-meeting classes; Peggy Johnson will have a table and will do an on-line Genealogy presentation showing how to research your ancestors; Chuck Graham will have a table where he will demonstrate digital photography and the computer software tools used for manipulating and displaying your digital photos and Alan Mildwurm will join him to show the EZPHONE CAM he reviews on page 6 in this issue of Diablo Blue; and Nick Chase will have a table where he will present some of the many options available for composing, producing, and playing computer music. These member's presentations will pertain to the topics of their particular SIG groups and their personal specialties and enthusiasms.
Of course, we'll start with one of our typically rousing Random Access sessions where you get to ask your computing questions and hopefully get the answers you need. And you will even have a chance to give answers or suggestions to other members' computer questions.
DVPC meetings are held in the lobby conference room in Building B at the Bank of America Technology Center office complex in Concord, located near the northeast corner of Clayton Road at Galindo (see the Map to Monthly Meetings on page 15). Please use the main entrance of the building, which is in the center of the front of the building that faces Clayton road.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. We will have the next installment of
PC 101, our New Users SIG class run by Craig Peterson on how to use the computer, at 6:15 p.m.  "System Tools or 'How in the heck would I know what's on my system?'" will be the class this month. (It was last month's topic, but due to circumstances beyond Craig's control…) The classes are open to all members.
We'll also have the Networking Table from 6:30 to 7:00; if you have something to sell or trade, need technical help, or just want to exchange views, visit the Networking Table. We will have one of our pre-meeting games, with a great prize for the winner! Also, as usual, we'll have library disks and those great DVPC mugs (version 2) for sale, SIG news, and some of our usual great door prizes.
See you at the meeting!

This month I am excited that we are trying a new format for our meeting. Typically we invite one or two vendors to give a presentation of their latest product or concept. This month we are trying something new. Four of our members have volunteered (I am using a very loose definition of volunteer) to each give a presentation. We plan to set up four tables and have these presentations ongoing throughout the evening. Peggy and Stan will do an on-line genealogy presentation, Chuck will do a digital photography presentation, Nick will astound us with his music and Craig will do a PC 101 presentation. Consider this an invitation to do a mini-presentation on a topic of your interest. I would like to see this become a recurring theme in the club where from time to time members will spend a few minutes and share some of their interests and expertise with the rest of us. Expert status not required -- contact me if you are interested.
In June we will return to our regular format. We

You Asked for It!

We've been asked to make Diablo Blue available in Adobe Acrobat format, so it can be read as a unit. Well, here it is folks! It's a huge file to download (as PDF files often are), 648K, but if you have the bandwidth, or the time, go for it! You'll need Adobe Acrobat, and/or the Acrobat plug-in for your browser, to be able to read this PDF document file.

Ready? Click HERE for this month's download.
