DVPC Board Meeting Minutes   by Nick Chase, DVPC, AD-HOC Secretary

Meeting Date: June 13, 2001 Time: 7:00 p.m. Location: Alan Mildwurm's house

President Emeritus Steve Israel graced us with his presence for the evening. In honor of his visit Charlie also joined us, and we briefly discussed video systems.
Peggy showed us the actual rebate check she just received from MGI. All it took was a half dozen or so phone calls and letters, and eight months of patient persistence. After a brief discussion of drinking and several improbable stories of lost items found, we settled down to business.
New Business:
Next Meeting: Due to the normal date for the next meeting falling on Thursday, July 5, it was announced at the last general meeting that there will be no July meeting. This evening we agreed that there was no real need for a Board meeting in July, either.
BofA Premises: We discussed the problem posed by BofA not having a guard on duty at the front door. This means that someone must stand there until after the start of the meeting in order to open the front doors for latecomers, as the doors all lock automatically. We talked about several methods of dealing with this and in typical fashion reached no decision. So members are encouraged to be on time, as there may not be anyone to open the door for them if they arrive late.
Shareware: Somehow we got on the topic of shareware and demos, and how certain creators of these products cleverly encourage you to pay for their product. One example cited was a software package that after thirty days pops a message listing several of your bank accounts and asking which one you wish to use to pay for the software. Another has you accept a curse when you load it, the curse to be invoked should you not license the product. I think this was prompted by a brief discussion of Microsoft's new licensing process for Office XP. Excuse me, "activation" process.
PC 101 SIG:  Craig announced the formation of a new SIG: PC 101. Not to be confused with the
