April 5, 2001 Meeting Announcement TBA
The April DVPC meeting is currently "To be Announced" -- Intuit, our scheduled speaker, may -- or may not -- be at the meeting to make a presentation; at this point in time, we don't know if they are going to be a "show" or a "no show". To date, despite having set up their presentation for our April meeting, they haven't confirmed. If they are a "show" you can expect to see a presentation of TurboTax, the leading tax preparation software, Quicken, the leading home finance package, and perhaps QuickBooks. And we are sure to hear about Intuit QuickBase, their new on-line Internet database management system that lets you manage and share data. However… never fear, our intrepid Board of Directors will be ready to give you an interesting presentation. What that might be is also "To be Announced" -- but is sure to please. And, don't forget, April is also the month when we vote for our Board of Directors, new and returning. We have a couple of open slots, so if you are interested in helping your club, you should plan on entering your name on April 5th! (See the Board Meeting Minutes article on page 7.) And, of course, we'll have one of our typically rousing Random Access sessions where you get to ask you computing questions and hopefully get the answer you need. And you will even have a chance to give answers or suggestions to other members' computer questions. DVPC meetings are held in the lobby conference room in Building B at the Bank of America Technology Center office complex in Concord, located near the northeast corner of Clayton Road at Galindo (see the Map to Monthly Meetings on page 15). Please use the main entrance of the building, which is in the center of the front of the building that faces Clayton road. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. We will have the next installment of PC 101, our New Users SIG class run by Craig Peterson on how to use the computer, at 6:15 p.m. "System Tools or 'How in the heck would I know what's on my system?'" will be the class this month. The classes are open to all members. We'll also have the Networking Table from 6:30 to 7:00; if you have something to sell or trade, need technical help, or just want to exchange views, visit the Networking Table. We will have one of our pre-meeting games, with a great prize for the winner! Also, as usual, we'll have library disks and those great DVPC mugs (version 2) for sale, SIG news, random access, and some of our usual great door prizes. See you at the meeting!

President's
Corner
by Alan
Mildwurm
April means elections
at DVPC and the board has gone to great lengths to make sure
that we will not have a "Florida Ballot." The Board has assured
me that there will be no butterfly ballot or chads of any
variety: pregnant, hanging, dimpled, or whatever. It also
looks like we will have some space on the Board for you. Like
many volunteer organizations, there are never enough volunteers
to make everything happen that we would like to do. The time
commitment is not great (essentially one more meeting a month)
but the benefits to the club would be enormous. Please consider
running for a position!!
As I write this, our April speaker has not confirmed. (This
is why the Board makes the big bucks! -- we're working on
it!) So the meeting is a bit up in the air. In May, the Board
will do a presentation and in June Aladdin Systems (www.aladdinsys.com)
will amaze us with a slew of new things. See you in April!
You
Asked for It!
We've been
asked to make Diablo Blue available in Adobe Acrobat format,
so it can be read as a unit. Well, here it is folks! It's
a huge file to download (as PDF files often are), 648K, but
if you have the bandwidth, or the time, go for it! You'll
need Adobe
Acrobat, and/or the Acrobat plug-in for your browser,
to be able to read this PDF document file.
Ready? Click
HERE
for this month's download.
