January 6, 2000 Meeting Announcement
PowerQuest & The Alan and Steve Show


Our January 6, 2000 DVPC meeting is the first meeting of the new millennium -- unless you subscribe to the concept that the millennium actually ends on December 31, 2000 instead of 1999. Either way, we're celebrating this year's millennium with PowerQuest who will demonstrate two new products: Lost and Found and Partition Magic 5. Lost and Found lets you automatically recover and restore data after accidental (or even intentional) data loss, or from corrupted media caused by a disk crash or logical system failure. And Partition Magic 5 is the latest update of the leading disk partitioning tool that many of our members have used with great success.
Since Alan was under the weather and couldn't give his annual Comdex show-and-tell (a Comdex information overload hangover?) at the December meeting as originally scheduled, we'll have this year's rendition of the annual "Alan and Steve Show", where you'll (finally) learn all about the latest and greatest products that these guys filch... snatch... walk off with... pocket... appropriate... umm, whatever... from that greatest of nerd holidays in the desert, Comdex. You'll hear amazing things. You'll see amazing things. You'll hear about all of the great stuff we'd all like to have that these guys got for free (that's free that rhymes with green that rhymes with jealousy, folks!). And you'll also hear about all of the giveaways like T-shirts and pens and envelope openers and pens and mini-flashlights and pens and balloons and pens and pop-open cardboard binoculars and pens and advertising badges and pens and AOL CD-ROMs and pens that

Back From Comdex

We made it. Steve and I survived our annual sojourn to Vegas. No matter what the hype, I still feel there were fewer vendors and fewer people -- maybe 220,000. The entire bottom floor of the Sands Convention Center was empty. In years past, both floors were teaming with vendors. (The upper floor was a little larger due to some new construction but there was still a large empty space on the top floor as well.) Even the main convention center had large empty areas. Linux was in one side of the Hilton Pavilion. Not surprisingly, there was more "energy" there than elsewhere, but Linux still seems very unfocused (except for the "anything but Microsoft" crowd). "E-Commerce" (what ever that is) was the watchword of this year's show. Everyone was talking about how they were going to capture the world through their Portal Sites. We will see.
I can't say that I saw any "blow me away" stuff this
