We made it. Steve and I survived our annual sojourn to Vegas. No matter what the hype, I still feel there were fewer vendors and fewer people -- maybe 220,000. The entire bottom floor of the Sands Convention Center was empty. In years past, both floors were teaming with vendors. (The upper floor was a little larger due to some new construction but there was still a large empty space on the top floor as well.) Even the main convention center had large empty areas. Linux was in one side of the Hilton Pavilion. Not surprisingly, there was more "energy" there than elsewhere, but Linux still seems very unfocused (except for the "anything but Microsoft" crowd). "E-Commerce" (what ever that is) was the watchword of this year's show. Everyone was talking about how they were going to capture the world through their Portal Sites. We will see. I can't say that I saw any "blow me away" stuff this (Continued on page 10)
