We began the evening with a short discussion of cell phones. This was prompted by Nick's appearance with a small leather case, about the size of a fanny pack, that had two zippered compartments. It looked rather like a six inch high backpack. The main compartment is for the phone and the smaller one for a pager. It is definitely designed for people who need to stay in touch. The only thing missing was a flare to set off when all your batteries die at the same time.
Anyway, this led to reminiscing about such things the first cell phone one purchased, or the most recent one, and how much money they all cost. I could have mentioned the first portable phone I ever used: it was the size of an attaché case. In fact, it
was an attaché case. You opened the case, pulled out the cord and plugged it into a handy phone jack, lifted the standard size hand set and dialed the number. However, I had told the story just a couple of months ago, so I kept quiet, saving it for a while longer until the memory has passed and it will again seem new and fresh to my peers. Six months ought to be long enough…
